Government as a Platform – Canada’s Digital Backbone

Digital Canada is a community with a mission to build a world leading Canadian digital nation, and our webinar series is intended to showcase the innovations that make achieving that mission possible, with a view to sharing learning and best practices to accelerate their adoption.

So we were honoured to be joined by Teresa D’Andrea and Po Tea-Duncan from the Government of Canada for the first inaugural talk, one which provided an inspiring exemplar of exactly that: A field of digital innovation where Canada leads the world.

Government as a Platform

Teresa shares a compelling vision for the role an integrated Digital Government platform will play in the lives of Canadian citizens, one that achieves an ‘invisible bureaucracy’, that entirely empowers citizens with control and oversight over their own data and how it is being used, and where businesses can directly and seamlessly integrate their digital services with those of the Government.

She explains the ‘CDXP’, the Canadian Digital Exchange Platform, and how it is central to achieving this vision, through an API-centric approach that encourages an ecosystem of interconnected services, where every Government function is exposed as an API via open standards.

Teresa concludes by challenging the audience to ask themselves: “What role will you play in writing Canada’s digital story?”
